Mazal tov to Nikki Bezborodko, a second-grader at Solomon Schechter Day School of Bergen County in New Milford and the daughter of Lisa and Boaz Bezborodko of Teaneck, who donated her hair to Zichron Menachem. The Israeli-based nonprofit organization runs a "hair to wig" program that makes wigs with donated hair for children who have lost hair due to cancer treatments.

Emma Parish, 8, daughter of Jane and Craig Parish of Tenafly, recently donated her hair to Locks of Love. Her hair was cut at the Pumpkin and Bean Hair Salon in Englewood. Parish attends the Walter Stillman Elementary School and the religious school at Temple Sinai of Bergen County in Tenafly. Locks of Love is a public nonprofit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis.

Mazal tov to Arun Viswanath, a graduating senior at the Frisch School in Paramus, who is among 560 semifinalists in the 2008 Presidential Scholars Program. Candidates were selected from more than 3,000 entrants on the basis of achievement, leadership, personal character, and community and school involvement. Final scholar selection will be made this month by the Commission on Presidential Scholars, a group of citizens appointed by President George Bush. One girl and one boy from each state, including the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, will be chosen. Scholars will travel to Washington, D.C., in June to receive a presidential medallion at a recognition ceremony.

The future groom, a graduate of Paramus High School, received his bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from American University in Washington, D.C. He is a paralegal at Rainen Law Office, P.C., in North Reading, Mass. His grandparents are Shirley and Morris Shultz of Fair Lawn, and Lillian and the late Bernard Rys of Teaneck.

The future bride, a graduate of Andover High School, received a bachelor’s degree from American University and her JD from the New England School of Law. She is a lawyer at Rainen Law Office, P.C., in North Reading. Her grandparents are Evelyn and Paul Buchholz of Middle Island, N.Y., and the late Mildred and Arthur Rainen of North Andover, Mass., and Boca Raton, Fla.

A summer 2009 wedding is planned.

Marc Manasse

Marc Isaac Manasse, son of Gail Sorkow and Mitchell Manasse, became a bar mitzvah on April 5 at Kehilat Hanahar (Little Shul by the River) in New Hope, Pa. His grandparents are Judge Harvey and Pearl Sorkow of Fort Lee and Heather and Herb Manasse of Boynton Beach, Fla.

Theise/Gordon

Rachelle Silver Theise, daughter of Carol and Leland Theise of Framingham, Mass., and Philip Samuel Gordon of Kinnelon, son of Carol and Brian Gordon of Kinnelon, are engaged.

The future bride, a 2004 magna cum laude graduate of the University of Michigan, is pursuing a doctoral degree in school and clinical child psychology at Yeshiva University. She is also a senior research assistant at the New York University Child Study Center. Her grandparents are Elsie and the late Russell Theise of Newton, Mass., Gordon and Barbara Silver of West Yarmouth, Mass., and the late Lottie Silver of Newton, Mass.

The future groom received his bachelor’s degree in economics and geography from Rutgers University in 2003, graduating Phi Beta Kappa. He is a senior account executive with Elias B. Cohen & Assoc., an insurance brokerage firm in Roseland. His grandparents are Barbara and the late Philip Gordon of Wayne and David and the late Charlotte Ebner of Oakland.

No date has been set for the wedding.

OBITUARIES

Lillian K. Cantor

Lillian K. Cantor, 88, of Wayne died on April 23 at home.

A 1937 graduate of Eastside High School, she received an undergraduate degree from New York University and a master’s degree in social work from Montclair State College. A social worker, she was a member of the child study team for the Paterson school system. Upon retiring, she volunteered at the YM-YWHA of North Jersey in Wayne for its "English as a Second Language" program. She also served on the Passaic County Court system’s juvenile conference committee and was a member of B’nai B’rith and Temple Emanuel of North Jersey in Paterson.

Predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Robert, she is survived by a son, Philip Cantor, and his wife, the Honorable Jane Cantor; a daughter, Barbara Zitcer, and her husband, Marc; seven married grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Arrangements were by Robert Schoem’s Menorah Chapel in Paramus.

Irving Eisenstat

Irving Eisenstat, 90, died on April 23 in Scottsdale, Ariz. A longtime resident of Bayonne, he moved to Arizona last year.

Before retiring 35 years ago, he was a printing broker who worked for the Department of the Navy, first in Washington, D.C., and then at MOTBY, the Military Ocean Terminal at Bayonne. He received a "20-year" pin in 1967. He also owned Irving Eisenstat Products, selling advertising specialties.

He was the secretary of the Bayonne Aid Progressive Society, a social/community service organization. He was also a 50-year member of Menorah Masonic Lodge 249 in Bayonne, which subsequently became Peninsula Lodge 99. He organized the 25th and 50th reunions for his Bayonne High School class of 1936 and was a philatelist with an extensive collection of U.S. and Israeli postage stamps.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Mildred, of Queen Creek, Ariz.

Graveside services will be held at United Hebrew Cemetery in Staten Island today at 1 p.m. Arrangements were by Gutterman Bros.in Bayonne.

Florence Kagno
Kent Spinrad

Florence Kagno Kent Spinrad, 93, of Teaneck, formerly of Cranbury as well as Roslyn Heights, N.Y., died on April 23. She was born in New York City.

Predeceased by her husbands Mortimer Kent and Bernard Spinrad, and a brother, Isidore Kagno, she is survived by a daughter, Elaine Abramas, and her husband, Allan; a son, Ira, and his fiancée, Judy Schlanger; five grandchildren, Roberta, David, Michael, Joshua and his wife, Sandra, and Jaimie; and seven great-grandchildren, Maxwell, Madison, Isaac, Megan, Reid, Charlotte, and Madeline.

Graveside services were held at Cedar Park Cemetery in Paramus; arrangements were by Gutterman-Musicant Funeral Directors in Hackensack.
