Rosh Yeshiva, Ben Porat Yosef, Leonia

In the psukim discussing the bikurim, the Torah commands us to thank HaShem for every good that He does for us: "You shall come to whoever shall be the Kohen in those days, and you shall say to him, ‘I declare today to HaShem, your God, that I have come to the Land that HaShem swore to our forefathers to give us.’ The Kohen shall take the basket from your hand, and lay it before the Altar of HaShem. Then you shall call out and say before HaShem, your God, ‘An Aramean tried to destroy my forefather….’ He brought us to this place, and He gave us this Land, a Land flowing with milk and honey." (Devarim 26)

» The Mishkan

Rosh yeshiva, Ben Porat Yosef, Leonia, Sephardic

hen we look closely at the details of the Mishkan’s construction, we notice an interesting fact. Moshe came to the people and gave them all of the details of the plans for the Mishkan. He explained to them the measurements and the materials from which it was to be built, as well as the construction of the items that were to go inside of it. Even with just a surface reading, it is clear to see that it would require professional workmen in order to build the Mishkan to HaShem’s specifications. Where did Moshe expect to find such professionals in the desert? The Jews were fresh out of Egypt, where they had spent the past 200 odd years working as physical laborers. They spent those years suffering, not learning the professions that the Mishkan required.
