» It may be time to look for a new doctor
By Cheryl Clark | Published 03/21/2008 | Healthy Living & Adult Lifestyles |

Does your doctor make you wait or fail to listen to you? Ask yourself if it’s time to make a switch. CNS Illustration by Cristina Martinez Byvik.

You say your doctor made you wait more than an hour after your appointment, then spent only 10 minutes with you, mostly talking about himself?

You’re insulted and you want to move on?

Welcome to the modern age of medical care.

Before you switch practitioners, however, make sure you’re not jumping from the frying pan into the fire. Nor does it mean that picking another provider will result in better care.

He is also the director of The Thrombosis/Anticoagulation Center at Englewood, where a team identifies and treats those at risk or who have DVT.

That could be a mistake, says Gary Claxton, vice president of Kaiser Family Foundation, which does health-related research and philanthropy.

"People become comfortable with a plan, and the unknown is sometimes worse than the known," he said.

Senior citizens are being encouraged to take safety precautions to prevent falls, which are the No. 1 cause of brain injury in older adults. March is Brain Injury Awareness Month, and the Brain Injury Association of America and affiliates, including the Brain Injury Association of New Jersey, are offering tips and scheduling public events to help increase knowledge about brain injuries and precautions to prevent them.
