Frances Suder

Frances Suder of Teaneck, formerly of Paterson, died on March 1 in Teaneck.

Born in Paterson, she was a 1947 graduate of the Parsons School of Design and was an artist and textile designer. She exhibited her oils and watercolors in many art shows, including two one-person exhibits in New York City in Soho and at West 57th, which won critical acclaim. She also did philanthropic work serving as chair of State of Israel Bonds of Bergen County and as director in the women’s division of UJA Federation of Northern New Jersey. She was a life member of Hadassah. Along with her husband, Isaac, she funded an art gallery at Boys Town Jerusalem, which also trains young students.

Surviving are her husband of 58 years; two sons, Michael of Englewood and Jonathan of Fort Worth, Texas; a daughter, Nicolle, of New York City; and six grandchildren, Morgan, Jason, Roxanne, Margo, Ryan, and Natalie.

Mildred Neckanoff

Mildred Neckanoff, née Goldenberg, 92, of Westbury, N.Y., died on Feb. 26 at home.

Born in New York City, she is survived by her husband, Morris; two daughters, Robin Albom of Edgewater and Deborah Neckanoff of California; and a grandson, Joshua Albom. Arrangements were by Eden Memorial Chapels in Fort Lee.

 
 

Rhoda Goldman

Rhoda Goldman, née Lapis, 82, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Cliffside Park, died on Feb. 25 at Woodlands Nursing Home in Columbus.

Born in the Bronx, she was a member of Beth Jacob Society in New York City.

She is survived by a daughter, Ellen, of Merseyville, England. Arrangements were by Eden Memorial Chapel in Fort Lee.

 
 

Norman Davis

Norman Davis of Monroe Township, 92, died on Feb. 26 at home.

Born in Canada, he was an Army World War II veteran and a civil engineer for New York City. He was member of Cong Etz Chaim of Monroe Township.

He is survived by his wife, Claire, née Wolf, and two sons, Barry of Albany, N.Y., and Samuel of Tenafly Arrangements were by Eden Memorial Chapels in Fort Lee.

 
 

Mona Gold

Mona B. Gold, née Weisberg, 80, of River Vale, formerly of Emerson, died on Feb. 24.

Surviving are her husband, Fred; two sons, Michael (and his wife, Ellen) and David; two daughters, Laurie and Dr. Minda Gold-Vesery (and her husband, Jacques Vesery); a sister, Judith Rice (and her husband, Ralph); and grandchildren, Jonathan and Daniel Gold, James Gold, Mayah Gold, and Isaac and Jonah Vesery.

Before retiring, she was an occupational therapist at Bergen Pines Hospital in Paramus and was a member of Temple Emanuel of the Pascack Valley in Woodcliff Lake and its sisterhood.

Donations may be sent to Doctors Without Borders. Arrangements were by Louis Suburban Chapel in Fair Lawn.

 
 

James “Jim” Young

James Young of Jacksonville, Fla., the first executive vice president of the United Jewish Community of Bergen County, died on Feb. 21.

He began his tenure at the federation right before the merger that created UJC in 1978 and retired in 1994. Dedicated to Jewish community life in Bergen County, he led many projects, including the establishment of the Jewish Home at Rockleigh and the first kosher group home in the state of New Jersey. He also stressed the role of Jewish education in sustaining Jewish identity and continuity and was devoted to Israel. He was instrumental in creating our community’s Project Renewal relationship with Dora in Netanya and then Neve Yosef in Haifa.

He is survived by his wife, Frances; a daughter, Rachelle Gottlieb (and her husband, Jeffrey); two sons, Sam (and his wife, Debbie) and Dan (and his wife, Merry); and eight grandchildren, Alex Gottlieb, and Isabel, Emme, Justin, Tyler, Sydney, Ali, and Drew Young.

Contributions may be sent to the River Garden Hebrew Home in Jacksonville. The funeral was held Wednesday in Florida.

 
 

Rose Siegel

Rose Siegel, 96, of Bayonne and Del Ray Beach, Fla., died on Feb. 20 at Del Ray Community Medical Center in Del Ray Beach.

Born in Bayonne, before retiring she was an administrator for International Logistics Military Ocean Terminal in Bayonne. She was a member of the National Active Retired Federal Employees Association and was corresponding secretary of the women’s club at Cong. Ohab Sholom Uptown in Bayonne. She was also a member of Adelphi Link Order of Golden Chain of Menorah Lodge F&AM in Bayonne and the Bayonne Hebrew Benevolent Society.

Predeceased by her husband, Daniel, in 1991, she is survived by a son, Burton (and his wife, Barbara), of Elkins Park, Pa.; a daughter, Harriet Smulen (and her husband, Charles), of Bayonne and Del Ray Beach; a sister, Frieda Astalos, of Bayonne; six grandchildren, Alan, Lee, Paula, Leah, Sarah, and Josh; and two great-grandchildren, Sophie and Marlowe.

Contributions may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Arrangements were by Eden Memorial Chapels in Fort Lee.

 
 

Ruth Margolis

Ruth Margolis, 96, of New York City, formerly of Jersey City, died on Feb. 18 at home.

Born in Manhattan, before retiring she was an administrator for the City of New York. She was a member of Workmen’s Circle of Hudson County and is survived by her friend, Mara Hanna of Jersey City. Arrangements were by Eden Memorial Chapels in Fort Lee.
