Vera Samoilovich

Vera Samoilovich, née Levitman, 88, of North Bergen, died on Jan. 4.

Before immigrating to the United States she was a physician in Russia.

She is survived by her husband, George; a son, Victor (Nadejda); and two grandchildren, Maxim and Allan. Arrangements were by Eden Memorial Chapels, Fort Lee.

 
 

Norma Stiskin

Norma Stiskin, 94, of North Bergen, died on Jan. 6 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Passaic.

Born in Union City, before retiring 30 years ago she was a bookkeeper for the Bort Coat Company in Union City for many years. She was a life member of Hadassah and a member of Temple Beth Abraham of North Bergen.

She is survived by her sister Lillian Bernstein of the Bronx; nieces and nephew, Sol and Arlene Solomon of Clifton and Alison Glazer of Wayne; and grand nieces and grand nephews.

Arrangements were by Jewish Memorial Chapel, Clifton.

 
 

Nancy Fein

Nancy Fein, 68, of Teaneck, died on Jan. 5.

Born in Brooklyn, she spent 30 years working for the rights of special education students in the New York school system and 10 years in the Pascack Valley Regional school district.

Predeceased by her husband, Michael; she is survived by a son, Peter (Janet Fein Neely); a daughter, Abigail Fein (Sean Campbell); a sister, Judy Barovick (Barry); and two grandchildren, Meredith and Jude.

Contributions can be sent to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Eugene Goldman

Eugene Goldman, 87, of River Vale, formerly of Upper Saddle River, Boynton Beach, Fla., and Teaneck, died on Jan. 6 at home.

Born in Brooklyn, he was raised in Jersey City where his parents operated a small candy store and luncheonette. He was an Army World War II veteran enlisting in 1942, fighting in Europe as a Private First Class in Company A in the 120th Infantry and receiving two Purple Hearts. After the war, he graduated from New York University. In 1954 he met and married his wife, Marjorie, née Grotsky. Before retiring, he was a national sales manager in the apparel industry for Leslie Fay.

Predeceased by his siblings, Nathaniel and Helen, he is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marjorie (Midge), née Grotsky; a daughter, Carol Berg (William) of Atlanta, Ga.; a son, Peter Goldman (Peter Eckert) of New York City; and a granddaughter, Eleanor Berg.

Arrangements were by Gutterman and Musicant Jewish Funeral Directors, Hackensack.

 
 

Elaine Perlmutter

Elaine Perlmutter, died on Dec. 5.

She was a longtime member of Cong. Shomrei Torah and its sisterhood in Fair Lawn and was an active member and past president of the Fair Lawn Chapter of Hadassah.

Predeceased by her husband, Howard; she is survived by a son, David (Nancy) of Livingston; two daughters, Carol Berley (Marc), of Oakhurst, and Betsy Sonnenblick (Marty), of Fair Lawn; a brother, Jerry Perlman, of New York City; nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Michael Turkat

Michael Turkat, 88, of Atlanta, Ga., formerly of Hollis, N.Y., died on Jan 4 at home.

Born in Brooklyn, he was a World War II Army veteran. Before retiring, he owned Space Age Materials Co. in Long Island City, N.Y.

He is survived by two sons, David of Marietta, Ga., and Ira of Venice, Fla.; a daughter, Debrah (Siegel of Fort Lee; a brother, Miles of Flushing, N.Y., and four grandchildren, Justin, Holly, Derek, and Phillip.

Edgar Haas

Edgar Haas, 89, of Newton, Mass., formerly of Fort Lee, died on Dec. 30 at home.

Born in Germany, he was a World War II Navy veteran. Before retiring, he was a manufacturer in the shoe industry.

He is survived by his wife, Edith, née Lang; a son, Ken of California; a daughter, Audrey of Newton, Mass.; and two grandchildren, Richard and Lauren.

Lauren Fox

Lauren B. Fox, née Burres, of Monroe Township, formerly of Tenafly, died on Jan. 1.

Born in Hartford, Conn., she graduated from Weaver High School in Hartford.

Predeceased by her husband, Paul, she is survived by her companion Bernard Carlin of Monroe Township; three sons, David (Sandra) and Carter (Susan), both of Wayne, and Jason (Joan) of Harrington Park; a sister, Debbie Gold of Las Vegas, Nev.; and six grandchildren, Skyler, Ashton, Alex, Peter, Brooke, and Madison.

Donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Leukemia Society.
