Sally Shirwindt

Sally Shirwindt, née Brown, 87, of Closter, died on Sept 28 at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center.

Born in New York, she is survived by her husband, Roy, cousins, and friends

David Paul

David J. Paul, 74, of Fort Lee, died on Sept. 15 at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center.

Born in Far Rockaway, N.Y., an architect, he owned Samuel & David Paul Architects in New Milford, and was a member of Temple Emeth in Teaneck.

He is survived by his wife, Joan, née Marks; two daughters, Elizabeth Branshaw and Victoria Van Zetta; a son, Joshua; and a sister, Freddie Friedman.

Ben Schlamowitz

Ben Schlamowitz, 93, of Fair Lawn, formerly of Paterson, died on Sept. 28 at home.

Before retiring, he owned
A & B Scrap Company in Paterson. He was a Marine Corps World War II veteran and was an active member and two-term past president of the Veritans Club, a philanthropic organization dedicated to the needs of children in Haledon. He was a major fundraiser for Camp Veritans and was a lifetime member of the YM-YWHA of North Jersey in Wayne, where he was inducted in its Hall of Fame in 2009.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Kate, née Brown; two daughters, Merle A. Christie (and her husband, Lewis), and Debra S. Wallace (and her Husband, Bill); a son, Martin; grandchildren, Sarah (and her husband, Bryan), Hillary, Sam, Emily, Jacob, Tyler, and Rachel; and two great-grandchildren, Jack and Max.

Randy Lehrer

Randy Lehrer of Jersey City, 32, was found murdered on Sept. 23.

Born in Montreal, Canada, she is survived by a daughter, Stephanie Alexandra, 11 months; her parents, Shoshana Moncarz and Lucien Lehrer; a sister, Ruby Lehrer (and her husband, Walid Otaki); her grandparents, Zina and the late Michael Moncarz and Clara and Solo Lehrer; aunts and uncles, Offra Moncarz, John and Sheryl Moncarz, and Marcel Lehrer; and cousins, family, and friends.

Arrangements were by Eden Memorial Chapels of Fort Lee.

 
 

Rubin Horowitz

Rubin Horowitz, 91, of Fort Lee, died on Sept. 28.

Born in New York, he was a staff sergeant in the Army Air Corps during World War II, and worked as a CPA for Robin & Associates of New York.

Predeceased by a daughter, Darlene Fried, he is survived by his wife, Shirley, née Lebowitz; two sons, Joshua Elliot (and his wife, Belle) and Barry (and his wife, Michelle); a son-in-law, Kenny Fried; and six grandchildren.

Frances Markus

Frances Markus, 87, died on Sept. 22.

Graveside services were at Beth David Memorial Park in Kenilworth; arrangements were by Louis Suburban Chapel, Fair Lawn.

Richard Strauss

Richard, (Dick) P. Strauss, 78, of Weston, Fla., formerly of Bergenfield and Allendale, died on Sept. 22.

Born in New York, he owned Ernest Strauss & Co. Insurance agency in Bergenfield. He was involved in Bergenfield Little League and was a founder of Bergenfield recreation soccer. He was also a member and past president of the Bergen County Soccer Officials Association and was a former member of Edgewood Country Club.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Debbie, and is survived by his wife of 57 years, Phyllis, née Hughes; a daughter, Susan (and her husband, Patrick) of Dumont; a son, Robert (and his wife, Lourdes) of Park Ridge; and five grandchildren, Emily, Nicholas, Carly, Cassidy, and Jeremy.

Esther Rosenkrantz

Esther Rosenkrantz, née Silver, 99, of Elmwood Park, formerly of Paterson, died on Sept. 17.

Born in New York City, she and her husband, Abe, owned Abe’s Market, a grocery and butcher store in Paterson.

Predeceased by her husband of 72 years, Abe, and a brother, Alexander Silver; she is survived by a son, Harvey (and his wife, Marcia) of Wayne; a daughter, Susan Liebowitz (and her husband, Stan) of Paramus; three grandchildren, Cindy Stromeyer, Marc

Rosenkrantz (and his wife, Lisa), and Jill Berkowitz (and her husband, David); and five great-grandchildren, Jason and Samantha Stromeyer, Amanda and Sydney Rosenkrantz, and Aiden Berkowitz.

Donations can be made to a charity of choice.

Samuel Fenster

Samuel Fenster, 89, of Wayne, formerly of Clifton, died on Sept. 22 at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Wayne.

Born in New York City, he graduated from City College of New York. During World War II, he served in the United States Army Air Corps in England, France, and Germany, and received the Good Conduct and the World War II Victory medals. He worked for Tobin-Howe Paper Box Co in Clifton, for about 20 years, and afterwards was the proprietor of Lewis Products Co. in Passaic, a giftware manufacturer and importer. He was a past president of the B’nai B’rith and was a member of Temple Emanuel, both of Passaic.

Surviving are his wife, Norma, née Tobin, two sons, Judge Philip (and his wife, Laurie) of Paterson, and James of Clifton; a brother, Victor of San Bernardino, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.

Donations can be made to the Jewish Federation of Greater Clifton-Passaic, 199 Scoles Ave., Clifton, NJ 07012.
