Gertrude Willensky Sussman

Gertrude Willensky Sussman, 91, of Boca Raton, Fla., died on Feb. 8.

Born in Bayonne, her parents owned Berlin’s Ladies Shop in Bayonne for more than 60 years. She graduated from Bayonne public schools and New York University.

In 1940, she married Raymond Willensky, proprietor of William B. Willensky & Son, a paint store started by his father in 1911. A stay-at-home mom, she was active in Hadassah and served for 13 years as the recording secretary of Temple Emanuel sisterhood. After Raymond died in 1968, she worked in the family business with her son Fred. She married Charles Sussman in 1971 and retired to Florida. She inspired several hit records for her eldest son, Elliot, a professional songwriter for Motown Records, including “Oh Mother” recorded by Jermaine Jackson.

Predeceased by her husbands; her son, Elliot; and siblings Lillian Kaye and Arnold Berlin; she is survived by sons, Fredric Willensky (Bonnie) and Steven Willensky (Judy); stepsons Andrew Sussman (Diane) and Gordon Sussman; and three grandchildren, Rona, David, and Marisa.

Services were at Temple Emanuel; arrangements were by Gutterman Bros. Funeral Directors in Bayonne.

 
 

Saul Lishinsky

Saul Lishinsky, 89, of New York City, formerly of Jersey City, died Feb. 9 at Amsterdam Nursing Home in Manhattan.

Born in Bronx, N.Y., he was an artist and a member of The Workmen’s Circle Branch Hudson County.

Friends survive him.

Arrangements were by Eden Memorial Chapels, Fort Lee.

 
 

Michael Lipton

Michael Lipton, 86, of Englewood, died on Feb. 10 at The Lillian Booth Actors Home of The Actors Fund in Englewood.

Born in in Queens, N.Y., before retiring, he was an actor and is survived by nephews and nieces.

Arrangements were by Eden Memorial Chapels, Fort Lee.

 
 

Gloria Matlick

Gloria Matlick, 83, of Fair Lawn, died on Feb. 8.

Predeceased by her husband, Morton, she is survived by her children, Dr. Aimee of Livingston and Dr. Lonny of Linwood; and six grandchildren, Amanda, Ben, Daniel, and Caroline Kramer, and Sam and Ari Matlick.

Arrangements were by Robert Schoem’s Menorah Chapel, Paramus.

 
 

Phyllis Delaney

Phyllis Delaney, née Silverman, 72, of Wayne, formerly of Queens, N.Y., died on Feb. 8.

Born in Bronx, N.Y., she was an office manager for several Wayne doctors. She was a member of Temple Emanuel of North Jersey and active in B’nai B’rith.

Predeceased by her husband, William, in 1981, she is survived by two sons, William (Suzanne) and Brian (Cathy Coyle); a daughter, Amy Passman (David); a brother, Gerald Silverman (Ellen); and grandchildren, William Delaney, and Jeffrey, Michele, and Jennifer Passman.

Donations can be sent to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center or Temple Emanuel of North Jersey; arrangements were by Robert Schoem’s Menorah Chapel, Paramus.

Stefanie F. Jacobowitz, 44, of Leonia died on Feb. 9 at home.

Born in New York City, she was a publicist for G&J Inc. in Manhattan and a member of Cong. Adas Emuno in Leonia.

Predeceased by her mother, Ronnie, née Gaa, she is survived by her husband, Marshall; father, Edward Miller (step-mother Bena) of New York City; three children, Emery, Hannah, and Aaron; and two sisters, Wendy Weigler of Denver, Colo., and Jodi Miller of Manhattan.

Arrangements were by Eden Memorial Chapels, Fort Lee.

Mira Berber

Mira Berber, née Starkman, 90, of Marlboro, formerly of Israel and Jersey City, died Feb. 9 at home.

Born in Germany, she was a Holocaust survivor who was in the Auschwitz Concentration Camp for more than five years.

Predeceased by her husband, Harry, in 1983, she is survived by three sons, Elliot and Robert of Marlboro and Sy of Manalapan; and six grandchildren.
